Michael Fabiano

Candy Store Owner ● 1910-1999

The Fabiano family has been making candy for 100 years. First in Holland, Michigan, and then in Lansing. Their chocolates have become a tradition that are still loved by generations of Lansing residents.

In 1935, Michael Fabiano married Jane Coscarelli and after moving to Lansing they opened a candy shop. Since they have passed that tradition on to their children and grandchildren. The family first operated a store in downtown Lansing on Washington Ave., but the need to support a growing family led Michael to take a job at General Motors in 1952. In 1979, however, the store reopened on Michigan Ave. where it stands today.

In 1984, two daughters purchased the store and now a grandson is the chief proprietor with other family members making candy.

In 1998, the store made the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s largest candy cane, measuring 36 ft 7 in long by 4 in in diameter.

Fabiano’s daughter Madeline still makes chocolates at the store and said he left quite a legacy.
