Help Support the HSGL in 2025!
We couldn’t have done it without you. This last year the Historical Society of Greater Lansing sponsored more than a dozen programs on local history covering everything from cataclysmic snowstorms and floods to the amazing story of “Senator” Joe Ford. This past summer we took to the streets of Lansing featuring eight walking tours of neighborhoods including Old Town, Cherry Hill and a flashback to Lansing in the psychedelic sixties.
Our award-winning documentary “Pave the Way: They Even Took the Dirt” on the construction of the I-496 Expressway surpassed 10,000 views on YouTube and won a national award. Our Facebook page, with more than 26,000 “friends” continues to be the go-to site for moderated and curated information on Lansing history.
We also launched a major exhibit “Lansing Origin Stories” featuring more than 40 current and historical Lansing residents who told us their unique “origin stories.”
This coming year we will reset the Origin Stories exhibit in our new museum and meeting space at the historic Rogers-Carrier House on the campus of Lansing Community College and later in the year we will launch a new exhibit on the history of Lansing’s iconic restaurants.
As you might expect, having a physical location for the first time will add some costs to provide engaging programming.
I want to underline that the Historical Society of Greater Lansing is an all-volunteer organization funded through the generosity of its residents and through small grants, so each year we ask our friends to donate to support the Society.
It is only through your generosity and the creativity of our friends that we are able to provide high-quality award-winning programming and exhibits that tell Lansing’s history.
You can donate directly to HSGL by sending a check to HSGL at P.O. Box 12095 or by going to our website www.lansinghistory.org and clicking on the “donate here” button where you can donate through Pay Pal. That link is conveniently located for you at the bottom of this page.
We are also looking for businesses and corporations to help underwrite exhibits and programming. So if you would like to be part of a vibrant organization that is committed to telling the history of Lansing contact us at info@lansinghistory.org.
Thank you so much for your support.
