The Historical Society of Greater Lansing will be showing the film “Battle Flags of Michigan” at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, at the Rogers-Carrier House on the campus of Lansing Community College, 528 N. Washington, Lansing, Michigan. The event is free and open to the public.
This hour-long film documents the history of the Civil War battle flags that 90,000 Michigan soldiers fought, bled and died beneath. Using period photographs, letters and documents, combined with modern film footage of numerous battlefields, the film tells not only the story of the Civil War and the essential role played by Michigan, it also masterfully tells the story of the flags, their use in combat and the continuing project to research and preserve them.
The Bradley Egen film was produced by The Michigan State Capitol Commission, Save the Flags, and MotionPossible-Cinematic Storytelling. The film will be proceeded by a short introductory talk by Matt Van Acker, director and curator of Save the Flags.
About 240 flags are in the Michigan Save the Flags collection including 160 Civil War Flags and 80 Spanish American and WWI flags. Watch the film trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mvkjl5ZQmQ&t=3s.
