Join the Historical Society of Greater Lansing for a tour of the Michigan State University Alumni Memorial Chapel 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8.

The Chapel is located on the north bank of the Red Cedar and was dedicated in June 1952 as a memorial to the men and women alumni who died in World War II. Today, the chapel walls are engraved with not only the 341 alumni who died in World War II but also alumni who died in the Civil War and in all wars as recent as 2005. A total of 589 names are recorded on the Chapel walls.

The Chapel has a series of 38 stained glass windows with the windows on the left side of the chapel representing  the education experiences of modern life while the windows on the right side represent the history of MSU.

Throughout the Chapel are 31 stones, some more than 500 years old, taken from cathedrals bombed during World War II in France, Germany and the Netherlands. In addition 69 Bibles are exhibited at the Chapel.

In its nearly 75 year history alumni have celebrated both wedding and memorial funerals at this classic Tudor style building on the campus of Michigan State University. The tour is free and will be led by Hanna Fanson. The Chapel is located at 636 Auditorium Rd.
