History
This quaint little store, The Peanut Shop, has been a must stop for children and adults alike since 1937 when the Melser family opened it and operated it for more than 80 years. The original old fashioned peanut roaster still turns out hot roasted peanuts and generations are still drawn to the smell of roasting peanuts in the shell.
The Peanut Shop which started off as an original Planter’s peanut shop. The Melser family opened the shop on February 9, 1937. This week it reached a new milestone. Shop owners, customers, family and friends celebrate more than 80 years of service to the Lansing community.
The Peanut Shop was in the Melser family for more than 80 years until they sold it to Adam Seyburn and Aaron Larvick in 2023, The new owners kept the store intact including the old fashioned peanut roaster which sits in the front of the store.
The smell of freshly roasted peanuts, candy and popcorn still waft through the store and generations of Lansing still make the trek downtown to shop for candy and nuts.
Architecture
The building is a typical vernacular work of architecture. Its architect is unknown, but is likely the original proprietor of the first establishment in the building. The building likely dates to around the turn of the twentieth century.
